Written by Brendan Bures Sports Editor FILED UNDER FSU News FSU News Football www.fsunews.com/article/20121010/FSVIEW0201/121010028/Mis...|topnews|text|frontpage Admit it: you're still not over Florida State's loss against NC State. I get it, neither am I. While some of us just want to forget—oh, how we wish we could never speak of that ill-fated loss—others never want to stop. Every class, every bus-stop conversation, every Club Stroz visit, somebody mentions the loss and their specific problems with it. Now, this epidemic will only be exacerbated this weekend when surely mom and pop will have something to say how disappointed they are in your/their/our Seminoles losing. Because we care about you, we want to prepare you for those conversations, you fated few who really wish this loss and the conversation could be swept under the rug. Here, in ascending order, are the top-5 reasons you're all upset and a quick retort to end the conversation. Think of it as a masochistic schadenfreude where tears fill your eyes contemplating your own misery. Isn't this fun? --- 5. This was the year, man! Part of the problem is our own bloated expectations. Not to say we didn't have reason to believe this team was special in any significant way, because even coaches and players said the same, but we've been hurt before. We're like kids perpetually burning ourselves on hot cookies before they cool, only to instantly forget why we have scars plastered all over our body. Florida State was expected and predicted to go undefeated, anything short, like a loss to NC State, is seen as failure. Response: No need to be clever here. Just use the words of top hunting dog himself, Jimbo Fisher. "How many undefeated seasons been around here?" he asked reporters rhetorically Monday. "One." And we should never expect another one. --- 4. The ACC stinks this year Okay, this one's pretty valid. The Duke Blue Devils have the same regular season record as Florida State. And they're coming here for our homecoming game where traditions include, but are not limited to: floats, questionable artist selection, super eyebrow-raising comedian choices and losing. Be afraid. But don't show it, because you, the Seminole faithful must remain strong this week. Response: Yeah, but at least we're not the Big Ten! --- 3. Um, top 5 defense? Florida State's defense gave up three fourth down conversions to NC State, the same amount of successful FSU offensive third down conversions. You're upset because one of the best defenses of the country couldn't stop the Wolfpack offense. Response: Simple—Florida State's defense was gassed at the end of the day. If that fails, stick to the old standby: ACC refs suck. --- 2. Blocked punts How could Florida State give up blocked punts in back-to-back weeks? Not sure, how did President Obama suffer through the entirety of the Presidential debates without uttering the number "47" at least 47 times? Some questions cannot be answered. Response: Probably the toughest to weasel your way out of. Rely on Jedi mind tricks and wave in front of the questioner saying, "these are not the questions you seek answers for." --- 1. Jimbo Fisher's playcalling The complaint of 70 percent of fans this week. They say he ran too much on first down, that he went conservative when the team needed to be most aggressive, that he called scared. EJ Manuel looked like a hunting dog brought to the Canadian backwoods only to be put down Ol' Yeller style when asked if he thought they would throw more—shouldn't the most efficient quarterback in ACC history get to throw a little more? All valid complaints, but surely every call has a reason, right? Response: Take it away, Jimbo. "No," Fisher said when asked if there was a decision he would change from Saturday's game. "I go back and if we execute, no. Then, we move on. That's the game." If the head coach doesn't have any regrets, neither should you. . . .............................................................................................................................................................................................. . .....item 4a).... Gordon Lightfoot ... www.gordonlightfoot.com ... Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind - Song Lyrics www.gordonlightfoot.com/ifyoucouldreadmymind.shtml If You Could Read My Mind, ©1969 by Gordon Lightfoot If you could read my mind, love, What a tale my thoughts could tell. Just like an old time movie, 'Bout a ghost from a wishing well. In a castle dark or a fortress strong, With chains upon my feet. You know that ghost is me. And I will never be set free As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see. If I could read your mind, love, What a tale your thoughts could tell. Just like a paperback novel, The kind the drugstores sell. Then you reached the part where the heartaches come, The hero would be me. But heroes often fail, And you won't read that book again Because the ending's just too hard to take! I'd walk away like a movie star Who gets burned in a three way script. Enter number two: A movie queen to play the scene Of bringing all the good things out in me. But for now, love, let's be real; I never thought I could feel this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it. I don't know where we went wrong, But the feeling's gone And I just can't get it back. If you could read my mind, love, What a tale my thoughts could tell. Just like an old time movie, 'Bout a ghost from a wishing well. In a castle dark or a fortress strong. With chains upon my feet. But stories always end, And if you read between the lines, You'd know that I'm just tryin' to understand The feelin's that you lack. I never thought I could feel this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it. I don't know where we went wrong, But the feelin's gone And I just can't get it back! . . ............................................................................................................................................................................................. . .....item 4b).... youtube video ...
